It's time to pray Psalm 94!
All
of us are feeling the weightiness of the season we are in. As
stewards of the destiny of our nation we will pray, we will speak, we
will work and we will stand. I was quickened to read Ps. 94
this morning. This is an imprecatory prayer given by the
Psalmist. An imprecatory prayer is common in scripture, it is
prayer that asks God directly to bring righteous judgement
(evaluation) to His enemies because only He knows the hearts of man
fully, their motives and their deeds. Here are a few directives from
this prayer warrior of the Old Testament that are instructive for us
today....and that I am praying!
(side
note: We are standing on solid ground when we petition God and agree
with Him to judge wickedness in civil government and to promote and
bless the righteous. It is not about a party...it is about those who
intentionally align themselves with a throne of destruction instead
of with King Jesus. See verse 20 and Ps. 2)
Psalm
94
v2
Rise up O Judge of the earth; pay back the proud what they deserve.
“they
pour forth arrogant words...they crush...they slay...they
murder....they have said the Lord does not see....He who instructs
the nations will He not rebuke?...
v13
“..grant him (the righteous) relief from the days of adversity
until a pit is dug for the wicked.”
v15
Judgment again will be righteous and all the upright in heart will
return to it.
V16
– 17 Who will stand up for me against evil doers..who will take
his stand for me against those who do wickedness? If the Lord had
not been my help my soul would have dwelt in the abode of silence.
V20
– 23 Can
a throne of destruction be allied with You,
one which devises mischief by decree?
They
band themselves together against the life of the righteous and
condemn the innocent to death.
But
the LORD has been my stronghold, And my God the rock of my refuge.
He has brought back their wickedness upon them and will silence them
in their evil; The LORD our God will silence them.
Pray
in and around this Psalm and we will together watch the hand of the
Lord at work in this season.
